Obituary

Mary Kale was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, Jan. 16, 1824 and died in Truro, Iowa, April 9, 1912, aged 88 years, 2 months, 23 days. She was married to David Bradshaw, July 29, 1841. To this union was born three sons and one daughter, Baty M., Edward D., John W., all having preceded her to the better land except Mrs. Mary Reed, who lives in Truro.

They came to Iowa and settled on a farm two miles north of Truro in 1854, where they lived until 1891, when they moved to Truro. David Bradshaw died March 23, 1893.

In July 1895, she was again united in marriage to William Bradshaw, who died in St. Charles, in April, 1904.

She was converted and united with the Christian church in Ohio. After they came to Iowa, she united with the Ebeneezer class of the M.E. church and when the Ohio class was organized, she was one of the charter members of the Truro M.E. church of which she remained a faithful member until her death. She was always steadfast in her faith even until the last, exhorting people to make a safe landing in the heavenly home, as she always expressed it. She always said she was “going to see her Savior” and when asked about her health she would always say she was “thankful it was no worse”.

She is the last of a family of eleven children to depart this life. She was an invalid for the last eight years of her life, being almost helpless for the last five years. She was cared for by her daughter, Mary A., and granddaughter, Lula, whose faithful, patient, loving hands have done all that any earthly agents could do, not sparing themselves but devotedly giving her their time and strength to add any possible comfort.

She leaves to mourn her loss, one daughter, seven grandchildren who are Mrs. M. B. Reed of Cromwell, Baty Bradshaw of Boone, Mrs. Nellie McKee of Indianola, W. D. Bradshaw, D. F. Reed, Lula Reed and Mrs. Grace Jones of Truro, eight great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. No one was better known than Aunt Polly Bradshaw for her hospitality and kindness, always trying to help all that came in her way. There is no doubt that a life spent in this way will reap its reward in Heaven.

Her funeral was conducted on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at the M.E. church by Rev. C. K. Corkill, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Young cemetery.
