David Lemuel Evans was born near Albia, Iowa, May 9, 1855 and passed away at the Winterset hospital, Oct. 28, 1922 at the age of 67 years, 5 months, 19 days. He grew to manhood and spent most of his life at his home in Monroe county, moving to Madison County in 1911.
On July 4, 1881, he was married to Elizabeth Thompson, and to this union were born six sons and two daughters, two sons dying several years ago.
Mr. Evans gave his heart to his Savior when a young man and united with the Congregational church, afterward uniting with his wife, with the Methodist Church. He was a great student of the Bible and enjoyed reading and talking about the great truths of the Word. He was a loving husband and thoughtful father, endeavoring always to lead his children in the ways of righteousness. Mr. Evans was an industrious and energetic farmer, a kind neighbor and good friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
His illness was brief, but during his intense suffering, he was very patient and thoughtful of others.
Those left to mourn his departure are his wife, two daughters: Mrs. Mae Packard of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Irene Jones of Winterset; four sons: Thomas of Leland, Iowa; George of Valley Junction and David and Earl of Madison county; also 12 grandchildren and other relatives, and a host of friends.
The funeral was held at the M.E. church in Winterset, conducted by the pastor, Rev. D. J. Shenton on Wednesday afternoon. Interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
