John Roderick, an old veteran, who has spent the last few years at the Soldiers’ Home at Marshalltown and among his relatives in and about Winterset died at the residence of his son-in-law, Fred Myer last Sunday morning. The funeral was held at the Jefferson United Brethren church last Monday afternoon. Beside the many relatives and friends who reside in the Myer neighborhood, quite a number from this city and Des Moines attended the services.

John W. Roderick Dead

John W. Roderick was born in Coshocton county, Ohio in the year of 1830 and died December 17, 1911 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. H. Meyer.

He came to Iowa in the year of 1850 and enlisted in the civil war in 1861 in Ohio and served as a soldier two years. In the year 1866 he was married to Miss Malissa F. Ballentine. To them were born six children of whom all are living, he was one of the early settlers and endured a great many hardships at that time. He was a member of the G. A. R. for a number of years.

Funeral services were held December 18 at the Jefferson U. B. church conducted by Rev. Swindler. He leaves a number of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
