FRANCES COLENE TORRANCE, Escondido, CA

Frances Colene Drain Torrance, age 97, of Escondido, CA passed away peacefully on Friday, August 20, 2010.

She was born in Lorimor, IA, on March 10, 1913. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines, IA, in 1934 and practiced nursing until she married Harry E. Drain on July 1, 1940. They were members of Plymouth Congregational Church in Des Moines. Colene later worked in real estate for many years. She was President of the Des Moines chapter of the League of Women Voters and was Des Moines Realtor Of The Year in 1960. She moved to California in 1970 where she met and married Vance Torrance of Los Angeles, CA. She lived in Rancho Bernardo, CA and then San Marcos, CA. for over 40 years. For the last three years, she lived at Anne's Place III in Escondido, CA, where she enjoyed their loving care.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Harry E. Drain and Vance Torrance; parents Dr. C. F. and Elsie McDonald; her sisters, Ada Maurine McDonald Moore, Mary Olive McDonald Kelley and her brothers Carrol, Ralph, Quentin and John McDonald. She is survived by her sister Catherine (William) Vander Creek of Tallahassee, FL, her brother Donald (Anita) McDonald of Apache Junction, AZ, her step-daughter, Diane Sears of Los Angeles, her step-son, John Torrance of Los Angeles, her son and daughter-in-law, Cecil Cindy) Drain of Midlothian, VA; her grandsons Timothy Drain of Tyler, TX and Stephen Drain of San Antonio, TX , granddaughter Kathryn Drain Ala of Chesterfield, VA, and five great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service was held in Escondido, CA. She will finally rest at the McDonald Family Cemetery in Madison County, IA. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in her name to the Joslyn Senior Center, 210 Park Avenue, Escondido, CA, 92025; to the Hospice of the North Coast, 5441 Avenida Encinas, Suite A, Carlsbad, CA 92008-4412 or to the School of Allied Health Professions, Box 980233, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA 23298-0233.
