Truro
Last Sunday morning at two o'clock occurred the death of Geo. Patterson, at the home of his son, W.O. Patterson, after an illness of nearly from the Ohio Baptist church Monday at eleven o'clock, conducted by Rev. C.K. Corkill, after which his remains were laid to rest in the Worthing Cemetery near the church.

George W. Patterson

George W. Patterson was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, Nov. 12, 1851, and died in Truro, Iowa, Aug. 27, 1911 aged 59 years, 9 months and 15 days.

He was married to Rachel E. Worthing in 1875. To this union were born three children who are: W. O. Patterson, a merchant of Truro, J. R. Patterson, who lives on the homestead, one mile east of Truro, and Minnie V. Patterson who is a clerk for B. R. Rankin of Truro. He with his family moved to Iowa in the spring of 1880 and settled in Ohio township, Madison county, Iowa. His wife departed this life, March 9, 1888. He was again married to Eliza Worthing in 1889. She departed this life, Feb. 9, 1892. He was again married Oct. 27, 1892 to Mrs. Hannah Small Gates, who survives him.

He was elected to the office of county auditor of Madison county in 1904 and served in that office for four years. They moved to Truro and later to Peru. In August of this year, they moved to a farm near St. Charles where they lived until his death.

He united with the Baptist church in Ohio, when he was a young man and when he moved to Iowa, he united with the Ohio Baptist church in Ohio township. He was made a Mason when he was 21 years old and was a member of Model Lodge No. 315 of St. Charles, at the time of his death. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. of Winterset and a member of the Truro lodge of Knights of Pythias.

He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife, two sons, one daughter, three step daughters and two step sons, 4 grandchildren and a large circle of friends.

The funeral was held from the Ohio Baptist church conducted by Rev. Corkill, pastor of the Truro M. E. church, Aug. 26, 1911 after which he was laid to rest in the Baptist cemetery.
