Page 4Thos. McClain was born in Ireland, April 20, 1834, and died in Warren county, Iowa, Aug. 10, 1911, at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 20 days. When he was 20 years of age, he left Ireland and came to this country, residing in the Black Hills for nearly 35 years, then in Madison county about 14 years, a portion of this time with Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Brown of Patterson. The last nine years of his life he made his home with Ellen McCarty in Warren county, near Wick.
His last illness extended over seven months but was without suffering.
He leaves to mourn their loss two sisters Eliza and Agnes of Patterson, four nieces, Mrs. Elum Delong of Peru, Mrs. Nancy Croft of Winterset, Mrs. Mary Straudaman of Kansas and Mrs. W. W. Brown of Patterson, one nephew, Willie McClain of London, Iowa, and many friends.
The funeral services were held at Union Chapel, Sunday morning, conducted by Rev. A. M. Eastman, interment in the Union Chapel cemetery.
