Death of Abe White

Uncle Abe White, for many years a resident of Douglas township, passed away yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bert Shaffer of South township. Mr. White had been in poor health for some time. He leaves a large family, all married and residents in this county, and in the state of Oklahoma.

Funeral services and burial at Worthington church today.

DEATH CALLS – Abraham White Dies Wednesday Morning at Shaffer Home

Abraham White, one of the oldest residents of Madison county, died at the residence of his son-in-law Bert Shaffer, east of the city Wednesday morning of kidney trouble. He had been in failing health for several years. He was almost eighty years old.

“Abe” White was born in Green county, Tennessee, and lived there until he was twenty three years old, moving to Schuyler County Missouri, where he was married. When the Civil War broke out he enlisted in the Confederate army and served 3 years. In 1867 he moved with his family to Walnut township in Madison county and lived here ever since.

He was the father of a large sample, four of the children yet residing in Madison county. Children are Frank and Jacob White of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Willis White, Mrs. Bert Shaffer, Mrs. Bruett, Henry White Winterset, and Mrs. Nettie Hays of Montana. Two daughters are dead.

All the children will be at the funeral, which will occur at Worthington church today except Mrs. Hayes, who is unable to come. Mrs. white died in 1907. The interment will take place at Worthington Cemetery.

Abe White was one of the county’s best citizens. During his long years of residence here is genial manner and his whole souled honesty won him hosts of friends. His home was always noted for its hospitality. The entire community will extend the to his bereaved sons and daughters of their sincere sympathy.
