Another Pioneer Called Home

Middle River is called upon to witness the passing away of another pioneer of the county. One more added to the long list of those who have died in the last year.

David Tyler, a resident of the county since 1883 and a respected citizen of Middle River since 1889, died at his home Sunday Aug. 30th at 4 p.m., after suffering with a stroke of paralysis for a period of seventeen days.

Mr. Tyler was born Jan. 24, 1837 in Pine Hill, Ulster county, N.Y., and died at his home in Middle River, Ia., Aug. 30, 1908. He was an old soldier, enlisted with Company C 112 Illinois Vol. Infantry in 1862 and served his country faithfully for three years.

Five years later he married Eliza J. Billings at Monmouth, Henry county, Ill. To this union two daughters were born. His wife and one daughter preceed him to the better world. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Maggie Friend, of Middle River, and eight grandchildren to mourn his loss. He was a good neighbor and a kind father and was dearly beloved by his grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted by the G.A.R. Post from Winterset, and he was laid in his last resting place by the side of his wife in the Roberts cemetery.

He responded to his last bugle call
A precious one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
