On Dec. 25, 1878, he was married to Miss Anna Adkins of Winterset. They made their home on the farm for five years and then moved to Winterset, so that Mr. Armstrong has been a resident of this community over 27 years. About three weeks ago, he contracted a heavy cold, which he was unable to throw off, and which resulted in pneumonia, from which death occurred January 14, 1911 at 4 a.m. During his sickness and suffering he was very patient. He was the third son of George and Susan Armstrong. Two brothers preceded him in death, also a sister. The father died in 1882. Mr. Armstrong for years, has been known as a stock buyer and his acquaintances was large and extended.
Two daughters, Mrs. Maud Eaton of Bondurant and Mrs. Mary McManus of Manson, with his wife, survive him, all of whom were with him constantly during his last illness. He is also survived by his mother, now nearly 90 years of age, who has lived in his family for many years and been his constant companion, but who is now very feeble, having had a fall six weeks ago which resulted in a broken hip, rendering her helpless.
The funeral service was held at the late residence Monday, Jan. 16th, at 2:30 p.m., being conducted by the Rev. L. F. Davis of the Church of Christ. Interment was made in Rock City cemetery.
Those who attended the funeral whose homes are not in Winterset were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Eaton of Bondurant, Mr. and Mrs. V. L. McManus of Manson and Mrs. May Hill of Des Moines.
