John Little died at his home near Elm Grove church last Thursday, after a long and painful illness, aged 78 years. Funeral services were held at the Elm Grove church Friday, and his remains were laid to rest in the King cemetery.

John Hartwell Little was born in Carroll county, Indiana, February 28, 1841 where he resided until 1855, when he came with his parents to Madison county, Iowa, and settled near Elm Grove church where he resided until his death on the 25th day of September 1913, aged 72 years, 6 months and 27 days.

He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Allen April 19th, 1866 and to this union eight children were born, two dying in infancy and one at the age of 8. T. W. Little, Mary F. Corsbie, Flora J. Weede, Minnie Little and Rosa F. Benedict, his wife, 13 grandchildren, two brothers, William Little, of Indiana and Henry Little, of Harrison county, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Smith, of this county, survive him.

In 1872 he united with the Christian Union faith and lived a consistant member until his death.

When the call came to serve his country he went with the troops as far as Davenport where he was discharged on account of his eyesight.
