INEZ IRENE STRINGHAM, Earlham

Inez I. Stringham, age 94, daughter of Howard and Florence (Draman) Little, died at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa on June 17, 2010.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday June 21, 2010 at the Earlham Presbyterian Church with burial in the Earlham Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday June 20, 2010 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Inez was a graduate of the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, IA in 1939 and went on to marry Ralph Stringham.

Inez is survived by her daughter, Zelpha Henderson and husband, Bert; two grandchildren, Ralph Henderson and wife Nikki; Dr. Helen Wood and husband, Jeffrey; four great-grandchildren, Bert Henderson, Oscar Henderson; Vera Henderson and Beatrix Wood; a sister, Irma Hoadley.

Memorials may be directed to the Earlham Presbyterian Church or the Madison Co. Hospital.

INEZ STRINGHAM, EARLHAM

Inez Irene Stringham, 94, of Earlham died June 17, 2010, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

A memorial service was held Monday, June 21, at the First Presbyterian Church in Earlham with Pastor Robert Waldron officiating. Burial of the cremains was at Earlham Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham, and Redfield.

Inez Stringham was born March 2, 1916, in Adair County to Howard and Florence Emily (Draman) Little. She attended Stuart Public Schools, graduating in 1932. Inez continued her education at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing, obtaining her Registered Nursing Degree in 1939 and earning state honor roll recognition on her state board exams. Her marriage to Ralph Benjamin Stringham took place Nov. 21, 1939. Her professional career included working at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Dexter Hospital, and Madison County Memorial Hospital, as well as serving as a school nurse and private-duty nurse. She was a member of the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing Association, Iowa Nurses Association, and past president of Madison County Nurses Association. Other memberships included GFWC Earlham Chautauqua, Earlham Garden Club, and the Dizzy Dozen Club. Inez also was the Past Noble Grand of Marguerite Rebecca Lodge 233 and a deacon and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, both of Earlham.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by one daughter, Zelpha Henderson; a sister, Irma Hoadly; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Inez Irene Little Stringham was born March 2, 1916, in Adair County, Iowa to Florence Emily Graman and Howard Little. She died June 17, 2010, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa the age of 94 years.

Inez attended Stuart Public Schools, graduating in 1932. She then went on to graduate from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in 1939, with her Registered Nursing Degree, earning state honor roll recognition by attaining 97% on her state board exams. She was a member of Iowa Methodist School of Nursing Association, Iowa Nurses Association and past president of Madison County Nurses Association.

On November 21, 1939, Inez married Ralph Benjamin Stringham. They had one daughter, Zelpha.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband Ralph. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter, Zelpha, and husband Bert; grandchildren: Ralph Henderson and wife Nikki; Dr. Helen Wood and husband Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Bert Henderson, Oscar Henderson Vera Henderson and Beatrix Wood; sister: Irma Hoadly; nieces and other relatives and friends.

Inez was the Past Noble Grand of Marguerite Rebecca Lodge #233 in Earlham, member of GFWC Earlham Chautauqua, member of the Earlham Garden Club, member of the Dizzy Dozen Club, deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Earlham.

Nursing was Inez’s profession and passion. She loved caring for others, working at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Dexter Hospital, Madison County Memorial Hospital as well as serving as a school nurse and private-duty nurse. After her retirement from nursing she carried her love for others into her commitment to life in the Earlham Community.

Memorial services were held Monday, June 21 at First Presbyterian Church in Earlham. Pastor Robert Waldron officiated. Debbie Jones was the pianist. Congregational hymns were “In The Garden” and “Let There Be Peace On Earth”. Urn bearers were Vernon Geiger, Leonard Pitcock, Mark Pearson, Jeff Noland, Jim Kress and Larry Spencer. Postlude music in memory of Ralph Stringham was “Beer Barrel Polka”. Interment of the cremains was at the Earlham Cemetery in Earlham.

Kuhn Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
