Edward A. Landers, son of Hiram and Elizabeth Landers, was born on June 26, 1870 and died at his home at Gillette Grove, Iowa, Feb. 18, 1914, age 43 years, 7 months and 22 days. His mother died when he was small and his father in 1900.
On Sept. 18, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Kime of Dwight, Ill. Five children were born to this union, Elva, Paul, Hiram, Edna and Harry. Besides the above he leaves to mourn his death, a step mother, Mrs. Fayette Taylor, a sister, Mrs. Elmer Allen, eight half sisters and one half brother, Mrs. Anna Ray, Mrs. Delila Gentry, Mrs. Bessie Reimann, Mrs. Grace Hudson, Clyde, Minnie,Gertie and Fern Landers and a half brother, Perry Landers, and a host of friends.
At about 24 years of age, he became a member of the M. E. church of Patterson, and at that time, was quite active in church work but in later years was not affiliated with any church. He was a member of Evening Shade Lodge No. 312, A.F. & A.M., and Clay Chapter, No. 112.
The body was brought to Patterson Saturday evening, accompanied by the wife, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Allen, Fred Allen, T. L. Debord, Mrs. Robt. Neal and H. H. Hoborg and D.E. Hocket, members of the Masonic fraternity of Spencer, Iowa, who had charge of the body. The deceased was taken to the home of Byron Gentry, and on Sunday at 11 a.m., funeral services were held in Union Chapel church, conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis, interment in the church cemetery.
