Today, Monday, the death toll numbers four, resulting from the dreaded flu epidemic. The home of deepest sorrow is that of Mrs. Anna Allen, whose home on last Thursday was saddened by the death of her only son, Ivan, after an illness of three days. The critical condition of the other members of the household made it necessary to hold the remains for burial until Sunday but on that day, Mrs. Laura Davis suddenly succumbed to the awful disease - death claiming the second victim of the family within a few hours apart.

Deepest sympathies go out to this widowed mother in her dark hours of grief. Three other daughters remain, but their condition is very critical at this time.

Laura Belle Davis

Laura Belle Allen was born in Madison county, Iowa, Feb. 10, 1891 and died at her home in Scott township, Dec. 8, 1918 with flu-pneumonia after an illness of a week's duration at the age of 27 years, 9 months and 25 days. Her twin brother Loren Davenport, died in infancy. Her father died a little over two years ago and her only brother died on Thursday, before she passed away on Monday. She was united in marriage to John W. Davis on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1909. To this union were born three children; Leo Edward, Lewis Emery and Hazel Velma.

Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her death, a mother and three sisters. She was a member of the Elm Grove M. E. church though not being able to attend regularly on account of ill health and other circumstances. She was often heard to say she wished her children to go to church every Sunday, and tried to teach them the way the Master would have us live. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday, Dec. 11th at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. a. R. Weed of Hebron.

Card of Thanks,
We wish to express our thanks to the friends and neighbors who have been so kind to us in our time of sorrow.
Mrs. Anna Allen and family,
J. W. Davis and family

The funeral of Ivan Allen, who died of pneumonia, following influenza, was held in the home of his mother, Mrs. Anna Allen, last Monday, and burial made in the Sayre cemetery. On Wednesday, the funeral of his sister, Mrs. John Davis, died from the same disease, was held at her home and burial made in the same cemetery. Ivan and Laura had lived their entire lives in this community and will be greatly missed, both in their homes and in the community. The sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved ones in their great loss.
