FREDERICK RICHARD SIMPSON, Earlham

Fred R. Simpson, age 82, died at Bright Kavanagh on Easton Blvd. in Des Moines on June 2, 2010. A visitation is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the DeSoto Calvary Baptist Church just west of DeSoto. Burial of cremains will be at the DeSoto Cemetery.

Fred is survived by his wife, Marguerite of Earlham; children, Jerry Simpson (Judy) of Des Moines, Jacquelyn Marquardt (Richard) of DeSoto, Barbara Gordon (Darryl) of Adel, Beverly Boyle (Nick) of Earlham, Fred Simpson Jr. (Karon) of Montreal, MO, Nancy Brantley (Rickie) of Gravois Mills, MO, John Simpson (Teera) of Versailles, MO, Julie Winter (Clint) of Adel; 25 grandchildren; 38 great- grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice Of Central Iowa.

Frederick R. Simpson was born the son of Helen Simpson in Des Moines, Iowa on April 30, 1928 and died at Bright Kavanagh Hospice in Des Moines on June 2, 2010 at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 3 days.

Fred was educated in the Winterset Schools. Fred and Marguerite Holton were married in Des Moines on April 8, 1944. This union was blessed with nine children: Jerry, Jacquelyn, Barbara, Beverly, Fred, Jr., Nancy, Robert, John and Julie. Fred worked construction as a homebuilder most of his life. He managed the mobile home parks in Earlham and DeSoto for several years. Fred enjoyed playing the saxophone in his early years. Later he enjoyed going to casinos and playing the slots or going to horse races. His greatest love was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Fred was a member of the DeSoto Calvary Baptist Church where he was saved on April 13, 2003. Fred was known to be full of humor. He enjoyed laughing and never met a stranger. During his last few days in hospice he made sure to keep the staff members and anyone else present in a humorous mood.

Fred leaves the following family to celebrate his life: wife Marguerite of Earlham, children: Jerry Simpson and wife Judy of Des Moines; Jacquelyn Marquardt and husband Richard of DeSoto; Barbara Gordon and husband Darryl of Adel; Beverly Boyle and husband Nick of Earlham; Fred Simpson, Jr. and wife Karon of Montreal, MO; Nancy Brantley and husband Rickie of Gravois Mills, MO; John Simpson and wife Teena of Versailles, MO; Julie Winter and husband Clint of Adel; 25 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild.

Visitation and fellowship was held Saturday at DeSoto Calvary Baptist Church. Interment of cremains was at DeSoto Cemetery.
