Darrell Ray Bruett, 66, of Winterset died May 31, 2010, of cancer.
Graveside services were held today (Wednesday, June 2) at McDonald-Chase Cemetery in Douglas Township (Madison County). Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
Darrell Bruett was born April 27, 1944, in Winterset to Harold “Joe” and Ruby (Newbury) Bruett. Following graduation from Winterset High School in 1962, Darrell enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving for four years. His marriage to Ellen Wenck of Truro took place July 8, 1967, in Patterson. Throughout Darrell’s working career, he and Ellen managed the Gold Rush Lanes in Winterset, as well as being a business owner of a monument setting company. His last employment was as a security supervisor for the Lakeside Casino in Osceola.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sherryl Van Kooten.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Winterset; two daughters, Lori “Annie” Weaver of Winterset and Sheila Kay Bruett of Lorimor; two sisters, Vicky Mease of Winterset and Judy Allen of Janesville, Wis.; and four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
