John Mahers, 73, of Lorimor died May 20, 2010, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
A prayer service was held Sunday, May 23, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Pastor Joel Nau officiating. Memorials may be directed to his family.
John Mahers was born Oct. 13, 1936, in Given, W. Va., to John and Mildred (Walker) Mahers Sr. His marriage to Adeline Mae Bushey took place Jan. 1, 1958, in Jay, N.Y. A resident of Madison County for 38 years, John was a retired welder for the former Fruehauf Trucking. He also had served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a half brother, John Mahers; a half sister, Susan Mahers; and one grandchild, David.
He is survived by his wife, Adeline, of Lorimor; his children — John Mahers of Pound, Wis., Pamela Hofford of St. Cloud, Minn., Jenny Cogswell of Pine Island, Minn., and Ronald Mahers, Joseph Mahers and Susan Walters, all of Blockton; two half sisters, Charlotte Mahers and Alyce Heller, both of Pennsylvania; and 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
