Obituary of Mrs. Mary C. Brooker

Mary C. Brooker was born March 20, 1845 in Lawrence county, Indiana, and entered in rest Sabbath, Oct. 23, 1910, at the age of 65 years, 7 months and 13 days.

At an early age she removed with her parents to Lee township, Madison county, Iowa, where she resided at the time of her marriage to John Brooker of Jefferson township, which took place Nov. 7, 1867, and the altar of the new home was set up on the old homestead in Jefferson township. To this union were born six children, two sons and four daughters, all of whom survive her and were at her bedside the last few hours of her life.

While still young she was converted and united with the M. E. Church, of which she has ever been a faithful and consistent member.

Although for some years past her afflictions have been such that she was unable to attend public worship, her interests have ever been with the church, and the advancement of the Master’s kingdom.

In January 1904, the family moved to Winterset, which place has since been their home. The husband preceded her to the better home six years ago. She was ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, a kind and charitable disposition, a kind neighbor and a loving and devoted mother.

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. They shall have rest from their labors and their works do follow them.

Pitzer Points

Last Saturday Mrs. Mary Brooker and daughter, Clara came to the home of Ira Trindle, expecting to make a visit of perhaps a few weeks. A short time after arriving, Mrs. Brooker complained of a pain about her heart, having been in feeble health for some time, it was at first thought the attack was not serious but she steadily grew worse and died at 9 o’clock Sunday morning.

The funeral was from Fairview church and conducted by Rev. Johnson, pastor of the M. E. church at Earlham and a former pastor of deceased, and interment made in that cemetery. She leaves six children, four brothers and sisters and a host of friends to mourn her loss.
