Mrs. Sims Passes Away

Mrs. Eleanor Hedge Sims, one of the well known and popular ladies of Winterset, died at her home last Monday morning at four o’clock after a long and painful illness. She had been a sufferer for a number of years, but not until the last year has she been confined to her house. She leaves her husband, David Sims, one daughter, Mrs. G. W. Maxon, of Des Moines, two brothers, H. B. Hedge, of Des Moines, and Wm. Hedge, of California, and one grandson, Walter Cardell, to mourn her, besides her many friends.

Eleanor Hedge was born April 2, 1836 in Green county, Pa. She was educated at Carmichaels and Washington seminaries. She was married to David Sims, of Ohio, in November, 1863. While a girl she united with the Presbyterian church. Moving from her home in Green county, she became associated with the Old School Presbyterian church of Martinsburg, Ohio. Mrs. Sims came to Iowa in 1866, locating near Polk City. Here she united with the Congregational church. Mr. and Mrs. Sims moved to Winterset in 1876 and since that time have made their home at this place. Here she was a member of the Presbyterian church.

The funeral services were held at the house Wednesday afternoon and conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. S. Corkey.
