Ila L. Silverthorn, 88, of Winterset died May 19, 2010, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 24, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial was at Worthington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
Ila Silverthorn was born June 17, 1921, in Madison County to Earl and Bernice (Lenocker) Linn and was a 1939 graduate of Earlham High School. Her marriage to Glenn Silverthorn took place April 26, 1947, at the West Star Church, west of Winterset. Following graduation from high school, Ila worked at the Earlham superintendent’s office for five years. Ila retired from the Madison County Courthouse as the deputy clerk of court, a position she held for 14 years. Her career with the Madison County Courthouse and the Webster, Frederick, Jordan & Oliver Law Firm spanned 30 years. Ila was a member of the Worthington United Methodist Church for many years, and more recently attended the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters — Earlene Gutshall, Irene England, and Thelma Inman; and five brothers — Darrell, Lloyd, Laurence, Wilbur, and Bernard Linn.
She is survived by two daughters, JoAnn Collins of Winterset and Beverly Wiebenga of Earlham; a sister, Vivian Boston of Waukee; a brother, Earl Linn Jr. of Huxley; and two grandchildren, one stepgrandchild, one great-grandchild, and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
