St. Charles

Mrs. Fred Johnson died suddenly at her home Friday evening. The services were conducted at the M. E. church Sunday afternoon and interment made in the St. Charles cemetery. The whole community extended their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Neighborhood News - St. Charles

Alice Jane Gilchrist was born in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, Sept. 8, 1845. She moved with her parents to Iowa, about the year 1857 and settled near Wapello, Louisa county, where she resided until the spring of 1870, when she moved to Warren county. She came to St. Charles in the spring of 1903.

She united with the Oakland Presbyterian church, Louisa county, Iowa, in her early life and lived a faithful, conscientious christian life ever since, a help and inspiration to with whom she came in contact.

She was united in marriage to Fred Johnston, Nov. 17, 1868, to this union were born two boys and two girls. Fred E. died in infancy. Her husband and three children, Mrs. Alice Stayton, Mrs. Emma Lucas and James G., survive to mourn the loss of an affectionate wife and mother.

She died suddenly of heart trouble at her home in St. Charles, on July 2, 1910, aged 64 years, nine months and 26 days.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. Milford. Interment was made in the St. Charles cemetery. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved relatives.
