THELMA ADA SPEER West Plains, Missouri

Graveside services for Thelma Ada Speer, 92, of West Plains, Mo., was held Saturday, May 15, at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery in West Plains under the direction of Forsyth Whechel Funeral Chapel. Thelma passed away May 10, 2010, at West Vue Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Thelma was born Dec. 27, 1917, to Joseph and Mahala McDonald in Lockerby, Utah. She was married in Greenfield, Iowa, to Howard Speer (who preceded her in death Aug. 4, 1997), moving to Branson, Mo., in 1950. She and Howard were well-known in the Branson area and worked side by side in their business, Speer Roofing Company, for 40 years. They retired to West Plains in 1990.

Thelma is survived by three daughters — Delores Maguire of Geelong, Australia, Jan McGoldrick (husband, Tom) of West Plains, Mo., Nellie Thomas (husband, Marc) of Sevierville, Tenn.; four grandchildren — Sean Maguire, Kerry Maguire Robson, Josie Jones, and Ann Marie Newberry; three great-granddaughters — Kaylynn and Alyssa Newberry and Alanna Jones; one brother, Louis McDonald; one sister, Margaret Spick; and one sister-in-law, Pearl Speer; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fair Haven Children’s Home in Strafford, Mo.
