Mrs. Susan Gearhard was born in Indiana, July 17 1844. She died on Dec. 30, aged 75 years 5 months and 13 days. She was first married to James Ervin of Clarke county. To them were born three children, all dying in infancy. Her second marriage was to Wm. Gearhard, Oct. 4, 1855, at the John Garst home with Rev. R. A. Creger officiating.
Her funeral service were held Dec. 31st at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian church. Sermon by Rev. W. F. Wallace, one of her neighbors. Songs were sung by the church choir. She was laid to rest in the Young cemetery south of town.
She was a patient sufferer for several years. Although crippled in body she was cheerful and appreciated every favor done. She will be missed by the relatives and friends she left behind. She said she was prepared to go to that better land.
