JOSEPH HUTTON, St. Charles

Joseph Hutton, 85, of St. Charles died April 30, 2010, at Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines.

Services were held today (Wednesday, May 5) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the I-35 Little League. Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Home of Osceola.

Joe Hutton was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Des Moines to Street and Mary Ann (O’Mara) Hutton. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and was a member of the Iowa National Guard and Army Reserve for 32 years. His marriage to Helen Darlene Woods took place May 13, 1949, in Des Moines. They moved from Des Moines to St. Charles in 1967. Joe was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion, St. Charles Lions Club, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Joe also managed Little League teams in Des Moines and St. Charles.

He was preceded in death by his wife; four brothers — Charles, Phillip, Asa, and Cornelius; and a granddaughter, Amanda Hutton.

He is survived by six sons — Bruce Hutton of Mount Ayr, Paul Hutton of Stuart, and Roger Hutton, George Hutton, Sam Hutton, and Tom Hutton, all of St. Charles; one daughter, Frances Mary Hutton of St. Charles; his companion, Mae Burhans of St. Charles; a brother, Michael W. Hutton of Ankeny; and 19 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and five step-grandchildren.
