Stephen James was born in Lawrence county, Ind., March 18, 1832, and died in Winterset, Iowa, March 10, 1910. He moved to Madison county, Iowa in 1854 and was united in marriage to Miss Lucinda Combs June 30, 1859. To this union were born seven children, two girls and five boys, four of whom with the widow and six brothers and sisters still live to mourn his death.
Mr. James enlisted in the 15th Iowa Regiment Company I in 1864 and serviced his country to the close of the rebellion. At his death he was an honored member of Pitzer Post G.A.R.
The funeral was held in the Baptist church, Pastor Atwood officiating. Interment was made in the Rock City cemetery.
