Death of Israel Moody

Israel Moody, one of the pioneers of Madison county and for many years a resident of Winterset, died at Kansas City, Mo., Saturday November 13th at the age of 87. Mr. and Mrs. Moody came to this county in the early sixties and lived here continuously until six or eight years ago, when they moved to Kansas City to be near their daughter, Mrs. May Hillis. Mr. Moody had been in poor health for sometime, in fact he had not been a strong man for many years. He attained a ripe old age and he left behind him an honorable life filled with good deeds.

His aged wife and one daughter survive him. The remains were brought here for burial yesterday and were interred in the family lot in the Rock City cemetery.

ISREAL MOODY DEAD

Aged Pioneer Citizen of the County Dies at Ripe Old Age

Israel Moody, one of the pioneer citizens of the city and of the county, died Sunday in Kansas City, and the body was brought to Winterset for burial Wednesday. Mr. Moody had reached the ripe age of 88 years.

He came to Winterset in 1856 and was engaged in business for many years on the South side. Later he removed to his fine farm just west of the city limits. A few years ago he, with his wife, removed to Kansas City where he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. May Hillis.

Israel Moody was one of the finest men that ever lived. He was a life member of the Baptist church, and one of its staunchest supporters.

The writer lived on an adjoining farm to him for twenty years. We never knew a cleaner, finer man than he. His love for children and his unfailing good humor remained with him to the day of his death.

The funeral was held in Kansas City on account of inability of Mrs. Moody to come to Winterset, she being almost blind and in very feeble health. The body was taken from the train to the Winterset cemetery. The body was accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Hillis, who returned to Kansas City the same evening.
