JOHN MELROY, WINTERSET

John Edward Melroy, 62, of Winterset died April 14, 2010, at his home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 17, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial was at McDonald-Chase Cemetery, Madison County. Memorial contributions in John’s name will be designated at a later date.

John Melroy was born Feb. 26, 1948, in Des Moines to John A. and K. Genevieve (Bruns) Melroy and was a 1966 graduate of Winterset High School. His marriage to Pat Wehrman took place Nov. 7, 1992. John began farming at an early age with his father and had farmed in Dallas and Madison counties all his life. He also worked full time as a heavy equipment operator for the Madison County Secondary Roads Local 2919 for 29 and one-half years. Since his retirement in the fall of 2008 from the Secondary Roads Department, John concentrated on farming.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, of Winterset; his mother, Genevieve, of Winterset; three children, Angela Kirk, Heidi Melroy and John Chad Melroy, all of Winterset; three sisters, Patty Krueger of Dawson, Kathy Book of Minburn, and Marjorie van Mourik of Napa, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren.
