Wm. Gordon, one of the old settlers of the county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. S. Allgeyer, of Douglas township, where he had been making his home, Wednesday evening. The funeral will be held at the house Friday morning at ten o’clock and the remains will be interred in the Gordon cemetery.

Wm. I. Gordon was born in Ohio Oct. 19, 1826, and departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. S. Allgeyer, in Douglas township, April 14, 1909 aged 82 years, 5 months and 25 days.
On Nov. 27, 1850, he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Ann Gowin, who preceded him in death a year ago last March. To them were born twelve children, seven of whom are living: Mrs. Chas. Brown, of Greenfield; Mrs. Mary Whedon, of Kearney, Neb.; Mrs. Ketorah Barnett, of Wabash, Ind.; Mrs. T. E. Hamilton, of Wash.; Mrs. Robt. Augustine, of Orient, Ia.; Mrs. J. S. Allgeyer and Irvin Gordon of this place, four of whom were present at the funeral.
Father Gordon joined the Church of Christ at the age of 21, of which he was a member at the time of his death. He came to Madison county in 1852, where he resided until his demise. He was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by his loved ones and the friends who knew him best. He leaves seven children, thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three brothers, J. N. and Jonathan A. Gordon of Winterset and Sam Gordon of Greenfield and many friends to mourn his death.
Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. S. Allgeyer, Rev. J. E. Clearwater officiating and interment was made in the Gordon cemetery.
