Death of Former Resident

J. T. B. Ritchey, aged 90 years, died at his home near Grand View Park Des Moines, Monday morning. Mr. Ritchey, who was one of Iowa’s oldest settlers, was born at Rushville, Ill., in 1819. As a boy he removed with his parents to Madison county, Iowa, where he lived until about twenty years ago, when he moved to Des Moines.

Mr. Ritchey is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters, Frank and Terry, Mrs. W. H. DeFord, Jennie and Emma Ritchey. Mr. Ritchey’s last home in Madison county was on the farm now owned by Geo. Jickling, southwest of the city.

The remains were brought here on Wednesday and interred in the Rock City cemetery.

Coordinator's note: Contrary to this obituary, all vital records show him to be born in 1829. In addition, census records show that he did not come to Madison County as a young boy. He was still living in Illinois in 1870 and all of his children, through 1873, were born in Illinois.
