T. J. ALEXANDER

T. J. Alexander was born in Juda, Wisconsin, May 1, 1847, died at his home in Des Moines, June 27, 1914. In 1865, he moved to Warren county, Iowa, and in 1866, was married to Martha A. Brown, who died December 6, 1910. Four children were born: Lloyd of Sedalia, Missouri, Shirley D., who died June 12, 1914; Eleanor of Lewiston, Montana and Erwin of Sand Springs, Montana.

He moved to O'Brien county in 1869 and resided there until 1896, when he moved to Winterset. He was county treasurer of O'Brien county from 1876 to 1882 and county auditor from 1882 to 1886. He enlisted in the defense of his country with the 5th Wisconsin battery, enlisting at Monroe, Wisconsin.

He was a man of high ideals, uprightness and kindness marked his dealings with his fellow men and he died a firm believer in the christian faith, respected by all who knew him and beloved by those who knew him best.

T. J. Alexander Dead

T. J. Alexander, a well known citizen of Winterset and veteran of the Civil War, was stricken with apoplexy Friday in the capitol building in Des Moines where he was janitor of one of the state departments. The funeral occurs tomorrow morning at the Methodist church. Shirly Alexander, his son, died two or three weeks ago and his wife was burned to death two years ago.
