KAREN MIKESH, WINTERSET

Karen Marie Myhre Mikesh, 78, of Winterset and formerly of Decorah, died April 3, 2010, of congestive heart failure at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 6, at Wilmington Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, Minn., with the Rev. Jim Scaife officiating. Burial was at Old Wilmington Lutheran Cemetery in Spring Grove. Arrangements were handled by Schluter-Balik Funeral Home in Decorah.

Karen Mikesh was born June 27, 1931, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Gudbrand and Idella (Teig) Bredeson and was adopted by Ben and Mildred Gjerdrum of rural Fillmore County, Minn. Her marriage to Carlyn Odell Myhre of Spring Grove, Minn., took place May 8, 1952. Following Odell’s death, Karen married Alfred Mikesh of Spillville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Odell; her second husband, Alfred; her parents; and one sister, Pauline Overland.

She is survived by four children — Carol Ipsen of Portland, Ore., Ruth Henderson of West Des Moines, Rev. Dr. Paul O. Myhre of Crawfordsville, Ind., and Kristine Barton of Grand Marais, Minn.; a brother, Donald Gjerdrum of Mabel, Minn.; and nine grandchildren.
