ROODHOUSE - William I. Phillips, 72, of rural Roodhouse died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

He was born June 2, 1929, in Winterset, Iowa, the son of George and Minerva Jane Wilson Phillips. He married Bobbie Dungan in 1952 in Yuma, Ariz. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kirby L. Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a manager of Eagle Grocery Store in Jacksonville before his retirement, where he supported the Jacksonville Police Department and other local agencies. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and a tax assessor in Greene County. He was a member of American Legion Post 279 and VFW Post 1379, both in Jacksonville.

Survivors: wife, Bobbie; three sons, William Dean (wife, Kelly) Phillips of Springfield, David (wife, Rachel) Phillips of Warboys, England, and James (wife, Tracey) Phillips of Kane; two daughters, Andrea Mott of Springfield and Georgeann (husband, Robert) Schultz of Richmond, Va.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Everett Neal (wife, Mary) Phillips of Las Vegas; and a sister, Elizabeth Phillips (husband, Gary) Gerberding of Grand Island, Neb.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Burial: Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville.
