County News – St. Charles

Mrs. Emma Neal received word last week that her mother, Mrs. Emily Stiffler of Norwalk, California, had died Sunday, April 26, being in her 91st year. Mrs. Stiffler was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Byars who were early settlers in Jackson township in Warren county in 1852. Mr. Byars built the first house in St. Charles in 1853. It was a log house and was moved onto the lot now occupied by Homer Lynch as a poultry and produce house.
