MRS. OTHO (Amanda) DRAKE DAVIS

Amanda Jane Bigler was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, June 29, 1828, and died November 23, 1907, at her home on the Drake homestead in Webster township, aged 79 years, 4 months and 24 days. On November 1, 1855 she was united in marriage to John R. Drake, formerly of Washington county, Penn., and the same year came to Madison county, where she has resided up to the time of her death. Mr. Drake died December 9, 1867.

To this union were born 7 children of whom 5 survive her and were present when she passed away. They are William M. of Jackson township, John M. and Everett E. of Webster township, Mrs. Ella J. Watson of Winterset and Sarah E. Garrett of Adair county. One son, Edwin Warren, died January 5, 1884 and one daughter, Mrs. Mary V. McVey, died August 7, 1899.

In 1869 she was married to Otho Davis, who died March 19, 1899 and the same year she returned to the old homestead, where a comfortable house had been prepared for her by her two sons, John M. and Everett E., who own the home place.

In 1868 the deceased united with the M. E. church at Middle River and was a consistent member the remainder of her life. On Sunday the funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Middle River and the remains tenderly laid to rest in the family lot in the Roberts cemetery. Services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. C. F. Trueblood.
