On Sunday afternoon Mrs. Eliza Allen, an old time resident of Madison county, died at the home of her daughter two and a half miles east of town. The funeral services were conducted at the M. E. church Monday afternoon by Rev. Chas. Hoover who had been an old time friend of the family.

Eliza Thompson was born in Tuscarawas county, O., Dec. 14, 1823, and departed this life Sabbath p.m., Feb. 21, 1909.
On the 20th day of March, 1843, she was united in marriage to John R. Kale of Penn. He was born Sept. 12, 1821, and preceded her to the better land in 1861. To this union were born ten children, three boys and seven girls. One girl, Susana, died at the age of ten years. The remaining are still living as follows: James Kale, Elizabeth Oglesbee, Mary A. Landis, of Peru; Peree E. Sutton, Susana Sayre, of Gray county, Kas.; Emma Goodner, of Kimball, Minn; Joseph Kale, Barbary Guiberson, Drucila Whitlow and John R. Kale, and Elmer Allen by her second husband, of Winterset.
Funeral services at the M.E. church of Peru at 3:30 Feb. 22, 1909, by Rev. Charlie Hoover. Songs, “Beautiful Hands,” “Meet Mother in the Skies,” “Looking this Way.: Burial in Peru cemetery.
