RANDALL D. (NICK) GOLAY

Randall Golay, 68, died at Taylor House Hospice on Sunday, March 14, 2010, of pancreatic cancer.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 8301 Aurora, Urbandale.

Randall was born March 31, 1941, the youngest of six children of Walter Francis and Sadie (Hardin) Golay. Randall graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1959, and began working for Corn States Metal Fabricators as a sheet metal worker apprentice in 1960. Throughout Randall's 50 year career at Corn States, he worked as an apprentice, journeyman, project manager, estimator, and in 1993, he became President when he bought the company. Corn States specializes in HVAC, industrial and custom sheet metal fabrication. Randall was President of Sheet Metal Contractors of Iowa from 2007-2009 and served on the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee and various other committees. He has also spent many volunteer hours over the years supporting Christian education for his grandchildren and children in the Des Moines area. He will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, and grandpa.

Randall is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty of St. Charles; three sons, Douglas (Paula) of West Des Moines, Randall II of St. Charles, and Mitchell (Jennifer) of West Des Moines; a daughter, Tamara Burch (Gary) of Waukee; a sister, Bonnie Golay of Norwalk; and a niece, Carol Kincel of Louisiana. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Natasha, Jessica, and Douglas, of West Des Moines; Amber, Brittni, Nicole, and Austin, of St. Charles; Walter and Henry of West Des Moines; Danilo Vallejo, Hallie Vallejo, and Emilyn Burch of Waukee; and one great-grandchild, Triston Howard of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Loy, Walter, Jr., Warren, Katherine Erickson, and his daughter, Kimberly Harman.

Memorial contributions in honor of Randall may be sent to Corn States Metal (1323 Maple Street West Des Moines, Iowa 50265) for any of the three Christian schools Randall supported: Des Moines Christian School , Mt. Olive Lutheran School, Iowa Christian Academy, or to Iowa Health Home Care (Hospice).
