Mary Ansley Shoupe, a resident of Madison county fifty-seven years, passed away Saturday, September 12th at her old homestead in Lincoln township. She was born in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, February 11, 1828 and was married to Levi Shupe December 7, 1848. To this union were born three daughters, Keziah E. Carter of this county, Emma M. Atkinson of Loraine, Illinois and Ada M. Luckart of Ogden, Utah, the latter daughter being unable to attend the funeral on account of sickness. The deceased also leaves eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, all of whom mourn the loss of a kind and gentle parent.

She united with the M.E. church when fourteen years of age and has been a faithful Christian during all these years.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. E. Bennett of the Winterset Christian church and interment made by the side of her husband, who preceded her on January 28, 1901.

We take comfort in the thought that our loss is her gain. As a wife, Mrs. Shupe was tender and true to the marriage vow; as a mother, loving, sympathetic, living in and for her children; as a sister, reaching out and following in memory the absent ones; as citizen and pioneer, she was known and loved by all her friends and neighbors. No more beautiful or tender message of love could she have left than the peaceful sleep of the divine expression that lighted her face as her spirit passed to Him who gave it.
