Death Of ANDREW HOISINGTON

Andrew J. Hoisington peacefully passed away Monday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. S. B. Johnson of Union township. His death was no surprise to his friends as his decline has been steady since stricken with paralysis one year ago. Two years ago he returned to this county, his boyhood home, for the purpose of writing the history of Madison county. He threw his whole soul into this work, which has been his ambition for many years and the result was a general breaking down of both mind and body.

The deceased was born near Quincy, Adams county, Illinois, July 12, 1848. He came to this county with his parents when eleven years old and continued to reside in Union township until 1873, when he moved to Great Bend, Kansas. Here he edited the Great Bend Register, a paper of wide influence and circulation and was prominently identified with the political and business life of that section of the state.

He was married to Mary Smith, of Jefferson Twp., this county, Dec. 31, 1874, who preceeded him to the great beyond on October 28, 1890. To them were born three sons, still living, Roy A. and Frank A., of Leota, and M. Earl, of Claslin, Kansas.

The funeral services were held this forenoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Johnson and interment made in Jefferson cemetery, where lie the remains of his wife and a brother. Of the parental famly he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Hoisington, of this county; two brothers, A. L. of Kent, Washington, Jas. L., of Ord, Nebraska and two sisters, Mrs. Samuel A. Rhodes, of Keya Paha county, Nebraska, and Mrs. S. B. Johnson of this county.
