Zimri Haines was born in a Friends home near Xenia, Ohio, on February 20, 1853. Thus his early life was safe-guarded and inspired by the high ideals of life, and the simple faith in God of these Quaker parents and true and loyal to the teachings and example of these Quaker parents he came to know their Christ as his Lord and Savior and remained a loyal member of the Friends Church until death and proved that loyalty by his support and faithful attendance as long as health would permit.

When Zimri was a boy of eleven years his parents moved with their family from Ohio, locating in Iowa, and here the remaining years of his life were spent.

On November 5, 1885, at Winterset, Iowa, he was married to Lorrie Philbrick and through almost 40 years spent in Winterset, Afton and Earlham, this couple has been happy in their love for and faith in each other. One child, a son Delwin P. came into this home, and for thirty-three years this family circle was unbroken, but in January, 1921, Delwin bid farewell to these fond parents and entered his heavenly home and almost 3 years ago, the husband suffered a stroke of paralysis and since that time he has been confined to his home almost a helpless invalid. Through these years the faithful little wife has been constant and tender in her care for him. She too has been closely confined to the home but the love that caused her to give herself to the heart and home of Zimri Haines held her in untiring care for him. And while planning for something special to brighten the day in which marked the anniversary of their wedding day 40 years ago, death came to upset her plans and as a release to the suffering of the husband.

Zimri had been kind in the home and to neighbors and at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 12 days, he departed this life and leaves the faithful wife, one brother, T. F. Haines, of Harvey, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Belle Nicholson, of Earlham, Iowa, to miss his presence and await that day when all in Christ Jesus shall be united in that country where all is blessed.

Funeral services were conducted at the Friends Church Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 3, by his pastor S. H. Williams, assisted by Mrs. A. J. Hadley and the remains laid to rest in Earlham Cemetery.
