Creed Estel Died at Age 78

Creed Estel, a resident of Winterset and Madison County for more than 50 years, died at the Madison County Memorial Hospital here last Friday, January 10. He was 78 years of age.

Mr. Estel was born in Adair County on January 7, 1897, the son of Jerome and Eva Shields Estel. He was married to Vivian Clara Wilcox at Des Moines in 1914.

A retired farmer, Mr. Estel moved to Winterset in 1961. He was a former member of the Winterset Volunteer Fire Department, and was a well known amateur and semi-pro baseball player here in the late Teens and 1920s.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian, and three daughters, Marjorie Goodknight of Winterset, Leona Newell of Seattle, Wash., and Marcelene Zink of Cedar Rapids.

Also surviving are three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Estel was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and an infant son.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 13, at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, with the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.
