Page 1Death of J.T. Blair
John T. Blair, of Scott township, died last Tuesday, April 7th and was buried today. He came to this count with his father, and a number of other families in May 1860 and was one of the well known Kentucky colony, an account of which we published a few weeks ago along wiht the annual meeting of the Madison Co. Historical society.
He was born in Indiana in 1826, being about eighty-two years old at the time of his death. They had three children, one living at Hopkins, Mo., one in Winterset and one at the homestead in Scott township.
Mr. Blair was quiet and undemonstrative in his demeanor; honest, upright and patriotic. He had been in ill health for some time and his demise was not unexpected.
The funeral occurred at Blair Chapel and was attended by a large concourse of acquaintances and friends. The services were conducted by Rev. Chas. Hoover.

John Thomas Blair was born in Shelby county, Indiana, Dec. 24th, 1825 and died at his home in Scott township, April 7th, 1908, age 82 years 3 months and 14 days.
He was married to Elizabeth Morgan March 4th, 1858, and to this union was born five children, two boys and three girls, one boy and one girl dying in infancy. His wife died Oct. 8th, 1902.
He with his family moved from Adair county, Ky., to Madison county, Iowa, in 1861, where he lived until his death.
He was a kind father and a loving husband and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was characterized by an ever ready sympathy and a noble hospitality. No one ever came to him for help and was turned away. Through his long sickness of nine weeks he was patient, often expressing himself of being ready to depart and meet his Savior and the loved ones who had gone before. He leaves behind him the comforting assurance that he has entered into rest.
He leaves three children, a son and two daughters, three brothers, seven grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn his loss.
