C. A. KAST 87, DIED FRIDAY

Charles A. Kast, retired Winterset business man and a resident of this community for 33 years, died Friday, April 11, at Memorial hospital here. He was 87 years of age.

Mr. Kast was a native of Dixon, Ill., where he was born Sept. 6, 1881, a son of the Rev. Augustus H and Margaret Dabele Kast. As a child he moved with his parents to Marietta, Oh., where graduated from Marietta college. In 1907 he went to Minnesota to enter the banking business, and a few years later became cashier of the First National bank at Rock Rapids, Ia.

In 1925 he entered there employ of the Iowa State Banking department as a receiver of closed banks. In 1936 he and his family moved to Winterset. He engaged in the variety store business for a few years then spent 10 years with the Iowa State Tax commission before his retirement.

Mr. Kast was married July 24, 1918, at Forest City, to Ethel Howard, who survives him. They were the parents of two children, a daughter dying in infancy.

He was a member of the First United Methodist church in Winterset.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Howard Kast of Denver, Colo; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday from the First United Methodist church in Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Everett K. Burham. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
