Obituary

James Henry Thompson was born in Hopkinsville, Ky., Aug. 20th, 1822, and died in Des Moines, Iowa, Feb. 24th, 1905, being 82 years, 6 months and 4 days old. Married to Miss Sarah Eva Harnest at Carthage, Ill., in 1859, she having preceded him into the next world about 10 months. Three children were born to this union, Eva May who died in childhood, Edward E. Thompson, who lives in Boone, Iowa, and Miss Lyda H. Thompson with whom he lived at the time of his death.

He was converted when about twenty years of age at Carthage, Ill., and has been a deacon in the Baptist church in this place for more than thirty years.

He was much interested in the building of the former Baptist church which is now in ashes, and grieved much and talked much in his last hours as he learned of the burning of his former church. He had requested to be buried from the temple worshiped in.

Mr. Thompson was a quiet Christian man, always faithful in his attendance upon God’s house and always rejoiced in the victory of Gods truth.

The funeral was held from the Christian church of this city conducted by the Rev. Fred Berry, of the Baptist church Sunday afternoon, Feb. 26th, 1905, and interment made at the Rock City cemetery.
