GEORGE KING, PROLE

George L. King, 87, of Prole died Dec. 23, 2009, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 29, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Winterset with Pastor Dean Coridan and Pastor Jody Dickhaut officiating. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Madison County. Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Winterset Seventh-day Adventist Church. Funeral arrangements were handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.

George King was born Oct. 3, 1922, in Macon County, Mo., to Warren and Nettie (Dorrell) King. His marriage to Genive Rose Byer took place June 13, 1948, in Red Wing, Minn. George, a resident of the Martensdale area since 1980, had been a teacher for 10 years and a minister for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He had been a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Winterset, served in the United States Army during World War II, and participated in the Iowa Senior Olympics. George also was involved with the Van Ministry for the homeless and low income families in Polk and Madison counties.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence King, and a sister, Olive Medlin.

He is survived by his wife, Genive, of Prole and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
