Thursday, July 13, 1922Death of Mr. and Mrs. Leggett
The death of John Leggett of Truro on July 5th, followed by the death of Mrs. Leggett on July 6th has brought much sorrow, not only to the nine children left orphaned, but to the many friends of the family as well.
Mr. and Mrs. Leggett and two of the children had been sick, the cause being ascribed to influenza or typhoid; the decision finally being that their ailment was typhoid. The two children are being cared for in a Des Moines hospital. Mrs. Leggett’s death is the more sad because of the day old babe left motherless.
A double funeral was held on Sunday at the Christian church in Truro, with interment in the St. Charles cemetery.
The burial of Mrs. Leggett was deferred until Monday, as a sister and brother from the west did not arrive in time for the funeral services.

It is with regret that we are called to report the death of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Leggett, which occurred at their home southeast of town last Wednesday and Friday. This is one of the saddest affairs that ever occurred in this community, when, the mother and father of nine small children ranging in age from 48 hours to 15 years, have to be taken away and the children left to the care of strangers.
