BRETT ANDERSON, Kansas

Brett Ivan Anderson, 24, of Wichita, Kan., and a former resident of Winterset, died unexpectedly Dec. 19, 2009, at his mother's home.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Dec. 23) at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. Burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made in his name to the Winterset Area Soccer Complex. Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.

Brett Anderson was born July 19, 1985, in Des Moines to Roger Anderson and Catherine “Cathy” Meyer. He was a 2003 graduate of Winterset High School and, in 2007, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in athletic training from Central College in Pella. Brett received his master’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Wyoming in Laramie in 2009. Following college, he worked as an assistant athletic trainer for track and field at Wichita State University.

He was preceded in death by his stepgrandmother, Elizabeth Simon.

He is survived by his mother, Cathy Simon, and her husband, Randy, of Winterset; his father, Roger Anderson, and his wife, Cindy, of Van Meter; two brothers, Nathan Simon and Trevor Simon, both of Winterset; one sister, Becky Anderson of Van Meter; two stepbrothers, Trenton Briney of Van Meter and Derrick Briney of Overland Park, Kan.; one stepsister, Erin Briney of Adel; his grandparents, Earl and Ardis Anderson of West Des Moines, Ron Meyer of Postville, and Susan Anderson of Bloomington, Minn.; and step-grandparents, Arnold and Priscilla Jensen of Greenfield and Robert Simon of Winterset.
