Dr. O. J. Ruth Dies

Dr. Oliver J. Ruth, well known here as a physician, died at the hospital in Petoskey, Mich. on Aug. 19, after a long period of ill health due to bowel obstruction.

Dr. Ruth was born near Iowa City Jan. 26, 1867, growing up on a farm and graduating in 1889. He received his medical education in Keokuk Medical College, graduating in 1901.

He located in Winterset in 1903, his wife dying here in 1904. In October, 1906, he was married to Mrs. Alice Burrows who survives him.

He leaves one brother, Dr. C. E. Ruth, of Des Moines, and three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Marks of Rapid City, S.D., Mrs. Libbie Oberhoffer, of Bloomfield, Mont., Miss Marie Ruth, of Winterset.

Dr. Ruth won many friends by his honesty and uprightness and in his profession was honored and respected.

Rev. M. M. Cable conducted burial services on Sunday, Aug. 20th at the cemetery here. The body was brought here to the home of a cousin T. W. Stark.

Dr. Oliver J. Ruth was born January 28, 18th 1867, near Iowa City, Iowa, and died at the Petoskey hospital in Michigan, August 19, 1916.

He grew to manhood on the farm; graduated from the Muscatine high school in 1889 and from the Keokuk Medical college in 1901, from which time he has practiced medicine in various places, having located in Winterset in the fall of 1903. At the time of his death he was located at Colchester, Ill.

In the winter of 1904 his wife died in Winterset, and was buried in the Rock City cemetery, by whose side he was laid to rest Sunday, August 20th.

In October 1906, he was married to Mrs. Alice L. Burrows, who survives him.

Those left to mourn his untimely death, besides his beloved wife, are one brother, Dr. C. E. Ruth, of Des Moines, and three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Marks of Rapid City, S.D., Mrs. Lizzie Oberhofer of Bloomfield, Mont. and Marie O. Ruth of Winterset. Besides the immediate relatives mentioned, there are a number of relatives in and around Winterset.

The body was brought by way of Peru to the home of his cousin S. W. Stark, and funeral services were held at the cemetery, conducted by Rev. M. M. Cable. The body was accompanied to Winterset by his wife and brother; the two sisters living in South Dakota and Montana were unable to be present.
