ASHFORD LAKE

Ashford Lake died at his residence in this city November 23, 1906. After a lingering illness the end came peacefully and was not unexpected. A severe cold, the effect of a cancer on the temple, and extreme old age were the causes of death.

He is survived by a wife and six children, Mrs. J. C. Foster, Mrs. T. J. Seevers, Johnson, Ammon, Calvin Smith, who were all present at the funeral.

Ashford Lake was born in Licking county, Ohio, May 5, 1818, and married Susan Hann March 1838. He emigrated to Des Moines county, Iowa, in 1849 and moved to Madison county in 1855. He and his wife joined the Methodist church soon after marriage and lived consistent members up to the time of their death. His wife died October 31, 1873, at the age of fifty-three years. On February 16, 1875, he was married to Malvina Baker, who still survives. He was laid to rest in the Winterset cemetery.

Ashford Lake, one of the pioneer settlers of this county died at his home on East Court avenue on Thursday, the 22nd, after a lingering illness from cancer. The deceased was born in Licking co., O., in 1818 and moved to this county in 1855. He is survived by his wife, by a 2nd marriage and 6 children, Mrs. J. C. Foster, Mrs. T. J. Seevers, Johnson, Annon, Calvin and Smith Lake, all of whom were present at the funeral.
