Obituary

James Madison Kellogg was born Jan. 24, 1852, in Mahaska county, Ia., and died at his home in Scott township Dec. 25, 1903. He came to Madison county in the early days and settled on a farm in Scott township where he lived continually until his death. In 1876 he was married to Miss Ellen James and to this union two sons were born, who both survive him. He was a member of the U. B. church from youth and highly respected by all who knew him. The funeral occurred from the home Sunday, conducted by Rev. Matheney, and the burial took place in the Baptist cemetery north of town.

James M. Kellogg, of Scott township, died at his home Christmas day, and was buried in the Baptist cemetery northeast of the city Sunday, December 27, conducted by Rev. B. W. Matheny. He was born in Mahaska county, Iowa, January 24, 1852. In 1855 his father’s family came to Madison county and settled on the farm which has ever since been the home of the family. April 12, 1876 he married Ellen James, who with two sons survives him. In his youth he united with the United Brethren church, and remained in its communion till his death.
