Mrs. Margaret Spurgin died at her home at Joe Spurgin’s Sunday evening, April 5th, after an illness of five months. The funeral services were held at Peru, Tuesday.

Burial was made in the Ebenezer cemetery.

OBITUARY

Margaret Wright Spurgin was born near Blountsville, Sullivan county, Tennessee, June 20, 1818, died April 5, 1903 at the home of her son, E. J. Spurgin, Madison County, Iowa, 84 years, 9 months and 15 days.

Margaret Wright was married to Philip Spburgin (sic) May 5, 1836, was converted a few years later and united with the Baptist Church of which she remained a member until her death.

They moved from Tennessee to Henry county, Iowa, in 1847 where they lived two years, the moved to Madison where she has lived ever since. Mr. Spurgin died in 1873. Twelve children were born to them, of which all but two are living, James and William.

Mrs. Spurgin was in better health than usual all last summer and fall, but was taken suddenly seriously ill on December 7 suffered greatly until her death. All her children were with her sometime during her illness excepting one son, D. J. Spurgin who lives in Alaska.

The funeral services were held from the Christian church in Peru and were conducted by Rev. McDowell of Winterset. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Ebenezer cemetery.
