ANNE CHRISTENA THORNBURG

Anne Christena Leinard was born near Moorefield, in Harrison County, Ohio, on November 20th, 1840, and died at her home in Winterset, Iowa at 5 o'clock p.m., Thursday, May 10, 1906, aged 65 years.

At the age of twelve years she removed with her family from Ohio in Winterset and settled on the old home farm two and a half miles southwest of the city, in which community and in Winterset, all of her life was spent.

In 1855 she was united in marriage with Louis Thornburg, who survives her. To this union six children were born, two of whom preceded her in infancy to the other world. Four daughters remain, all of whom were present with her during her last hours, Mrs. Sophia Boyd, of Columbia, Nebraska; Mrs. Lillie Cline, Mrs. Tina Wilkinson and Miss Belle Thornburg, of this city. Two brothers also survive her and a multitude of lifelong friends and acquaintances.

Sister Thornburg early in life gave her heart to God and was a lifelong and consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church; a membership which she always prized to the extent that when she was physically able it was always her delight to be found in the courts of the Lord's house on the Sabbath day and although partially unconscious during her last hours, her last words expressed a desire that she might “do more good”. Although ill for a year or more previous to her departure, she finally became worse until the last four months or more she has been entirely under the doctor's care. The end came quietly on Thursday evening as before stated.
